Exercise: Try it!

For this exercise you will need some time, paper, and pen… and open mind… Do not read ahead or it will not be effective.

-Relax. Think of a person whom you care about and love. It can be your spouse, child, parent, etc. Imagine this person in front of you. You know them well and you want the best for this person. Give it some though and time, if need be.  

-Now, think about all the things you wish for them to have now and in the future. Think deeply and from your heart.  It could be anything, from external successes (a certain job, car, house, etc.)  to internal statues (peace, love, etc.). Anything!  What do you want for this person? Make a list of all the things that come to your mind and write them on your paper. Take as much time as you need… 

-Now, read the list to yourself. These are the things you want for an important person that’s in your life. It’s what this person wants and needs to live a happy and fulfilled life. But in truth, your heart wishes these things also for YOU!  On a deeper level, what we wish for our loved ones, is what we wish for ourselves.
